Chapter 15

“Wait, what are you telling me?” He slammed his hands down angrily on the sides of her waist. Venting his frustration on her innocent sink. “What are you saying? Are you saying you’re a virgin?”

“I’ve never been with a man” she tossed back over her shoulder at him. He slammed his mouth shut. It wasn’t possible. What the hell? Before he could ask for an explanation she added, “but not a virgin either. And no, I haven’t been with a woman either.”

“So what are you saying…” His brows drew together and furrowed his forehead.

“I’m saying. How do you think Girls Night In was started, Theo?” Maria’s words slowed as if she were speaking to a child. As if she knew he wasn’t comprehending. “I’m saying shifters have needs. Particularly cat shifters. When we go into heat the fire is actually painful. That first time it hit me. There was no one around that I wanted. That Maria wanted. My cat would have taken anybody. Anybody at all. But I couldn’t let that side control me. So I took care of it myself.”

He cleared his throat. “Yourself?”

“Myself. I tried with my hand at first.” His eyes jumped to her hands. Why did he suddenly want to lick every finger? As if she had just touched herself minutes ago. Her slender dainty fingers held secrets and answers that he needed. “But it only helped a little.” She raised those dainty devilish fingers and waved them in front of his nose. “So at seventeen I went to the store and bought my first B.O.B..”

“B.O.B.?”

“My first battery-operated-boyfriend. He took my virginity and I never looked back. As I got older my boyfriends changed as my needs changed. It wasn’t an addiction although it was headed that way at first. But I couldn’t ever let it completely go because when I tried and I let the heat build-up, I was scared of what I might do and to whom.”

“So all this was about fear….”

“It was about empowerment. It was about not being dependent on a man to fulfill my sexual needs. I was not going to be a slave to shifter hormones.” Her eyes stripped him. Somewhere out there you knew you had a mate. Did you wait for her? Did you think, I should be out trying to find the love of my life?” Her brow arched. “Or did you think, if I stumble across her good? And if I don’t then at least I would have enjoyed the search?”

His nostrils flared. She had no ‘effing idea. Looking for her is what had brought him back to Dentown in the first place. “Do you know even one damn thing about me?”

“I know…”

“No, you ‘effing don’t. You don’t know a damn thing about me. After that little trick with my feline Aunty, I was damn near ruined for life. I couldn’t get a hard-on for a couple of years.”

Her eyes dropped down. Taking in the permanent hard-on he had around her. “Kinda find that hard to believe Teddy bear.
